Our Story

GIRIAS… the most trusted household
name since 1971

Girias began its journey in 1971 from a modest 300sqft store in Gandhinagar, Bangalore, selling small time  electronic appliances. Today the company has risen from its humble beginning to being one of the leading consumer durables and home appliances chain store in India. With around 40 stores spread across 7 cities, dealing with all the major national and international brands in electronics. Girias is today a household name and gathers immense goodwill from its huge customer base.Manish Giria, Director at Girias – “The people of Bangalore have been very generous with their love and support, and it is only because of them that we are where we are today. Our journey started with one small store in Bangalore and today our presence in all major cities in the south is because of the faith that the people had in us. We would like to give back to this very society that has given us so much. This is one of the founding principles behind the conceptualization of the Explorium. The Explorium strives to be an integral part of the community by providing educational and cultural activities that sparks the child’s discovery of their world through interactive play and learning experiences. We engage children and their families in exciting experiences that instill an appreciation of our environment, develop foundation skills and ignite the thirst of learning. The Explorium is a welcoming, safe, imaginative, child centric learning environment that allows kids to play to learn and encourages adults in learning to play.

The journey started 2 years ago when my children, Aman and Sahil, wanted to do “something meaningful and fun” every other weekend. The quest to satisfy their demand led my wife, Sarika Giria, and me to the various children’s museums in the USA. After doing a thorough research of about 30 museums in The USA, we decided that the children of Bangalore were surely ready for their very own museum. We hired RedBox Workshop, a Chicago based design firm who specialize in the design of children’s museums and exhibits in the USA to design the Explorium for us.

Also one of our founding principles right from the ideation stages was that we did not want learning through play to be restricted to a privileged few and that is why we heavily discount school field trips and provide absolute free access to NGO run schools for the less privileged and orphanages. This is our way of putting smiles on the faces of children and needless to say it gives us immense joy when we see them happy.”
